Blue Cheese Dressing1

Blue Cheese dressing is definitely at the top on my list when it comes to salad dressings.  Actually, my favorite way to eat a salad is doused with vinegar and dipped into a side of blue cheese dressing… yum!

I’m not a fan of buying pre-made “low-fat” dressings from the grocery store because most of them are filled with ingredients that I can’t pronounce (and honestly they don’t even taste very good either).  So I set out to create a rich and creamy blue cheese dressing that would have all the qualities I love with out all the saturated fat or impossible to pronounce ingredients!

Thanks to no-fat Greek yogurt (one of my all time favorite ingredients) this was a pretty easy task to accomplish. But let me tell you, the key to accomplishing a delicious lower fat blue cheese dressing is the blue cheese.

Sure we can swap out the mayo and work around the sour cream, but the only way to accomplish the yummy flavor of the blue cheese is to incorporate some real blue cheese!

The great thing about rich, high fat ingredients is that they usually carry a lot of texture and flavor, so a little goes a long way.  This is why I never build my recipes around fat.  I’d rather save the fat for the finishing touches.  Finishing your dishes with fat is the best way to incorporate the textures and flavors you are looking for without adding an excess of un-needed calories. It’s a win-win.

By adding just a couple of tablespoons of real blue cheese to this dressing, I was able to really capture the flavors and textures that I love so much.  In other words, by sticking to real, whole, unprocessed foods we are still able to create a much lighter blue cheese dressing that doesn’t lack an ounce of flavor AND we can pronounce all the ingredients!

I like that you didn’t try and leave out the blue cheese. How could it be blue cheese dressing without the cheese?! Now could you doll up ranch please, because I <3 ranch! 🙂

I love blue cheese dressing. Do you have any other homemade dressing recipes like ranch and/or caesar dressings?

This is very tasty dressing. Just had it on a wedge salad w/turkey bacon crumbles and cherry tomatoes. Thanks for an awesome recipe.

This dressing is absolutely amazing! Since I discovered it 4 days ago, I have made it 3 times! My husband and I can’t get enough. Today I feel like I had a stroke of creative genius…I mixed a bit with some broccoli slaw to make a mock coleslaw and topped a turkey burger with it. YUM! Thank you for sharing such delicious recipes. Your website is a new favorite for me:)

      That was an error Lisa. This dressing makes about 1 cup and the nutritional data for 2 tablespoons is; Calories: 91kcal | Carbohydrates: 2g | Protein: 6g | Fat: 6g | Saturated Fat: 4g | Cholesterol: 15mg | Sodium: 267mg | Potassium: 85mg | Fiber: 1g | Sugar: 1g | Vitamin A: 135IU | Vitamin C: 1mg | Calcium: 118mg | Iron: 1mg
