Watch the step-by-step video HERE.

After traveling to Savannah a couple weeks back, I ended up with a wicked cold that I then passed along to my son and daughter (mom of the year!).

As much as I don’t enjoy being sick, I do love how it reminds me to slow down and connect to the things that are most important to me.  Spending quality time with my family, home cooked meals, taking care of my home… all so simple, but so fulfilling.

A few friends reached out, telling me how much they love to add turmeric to their tea when they are not feeling well and one of them even surprised me by stopping by my house to drop off some fresh turmeric and ginger (amazing!).

I have since been addicted to turmeric, I even have a 101 coming your way next week!

Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory and rich in antioxidants.  It has a mild peppery, earthy flavor with a little brightness.  It’s kind of like a toned down ginger with more earth.

After making tea with my turmeric, my brain started to dream about hot chocolate!  So I combined the turmeric with some other powerful ingredients like fresh ground ginger, cinnamon, raw cacao powder and honey and came up with this insanely delicious, comforting, hot chocolate that is anti-inflamatory and supports the immune system.

Here’s the thing though.

Because Turmeric is fat soluble it needs to be ingested with a little fat for best absorption.  So I recommend either making this with a full-fat grassfed milk or do what I did, and use an unsweetened almond milk (or make it yourself) and then add in a little coconut oil for a kiss of healthy fat.  Or skip all of that and top it with lots of whipped cream!

However you so, I definitely recommend making it.  It’s rich and delicious but not super-sweet.  It’s the kind of drink that just feels good.

Would love to hear of you try it! Talk soon. xo- Dani

I love this – and so does my picky husband! It’s great to add a cup of french-pressed coffee and it makes a wonderful Mexican Mocha as my husband calls it 🙂

    Thanks for the great recipes!

If you only have dry turmeric and ginger what would the measurements be?

I make this with just dry ginger and turmeric and use the measurements listed. It tastes amazing and is comforting when you’re getting a cold!

I love all your recipes. But my husband I’d type 2 diabetict and there is a bit to much sugar in some of the recipe’s even though they are whole sugars. Do you have some diabetic recipe’s I don’t want to use to much sweeter’s. I love your raspberry ice cream because it has no sweeter

My kids loved this! I was trying to find something with low sugar for the holidays since sugar wreaks havoc on your immune system. I came across this and was so grateful! We are a dairy-free home and I didn’t have almond milk so I used oat milk and added some collagen powder for protein. It made it thick and creamy:)

I love the idea of adding collagen – so clever! I’ll have to try that myself.

I love this idea. How would you make it into a mix for a go to instant hot cocoa for the family? A jar of mix would make great holiday gifts too. Just not sure about ratios or what else it would need for shelf life.

If you wanted to make this into an insant cocoa mix, I would sub the fresh turmeric for dried and then add all of the dry ingredimets to a jar (you can do this in multiples of how ever many servings you would like to be in a jar – just first measure how much the dry spices equate to for one drink so you can share that in the instructions). Then leave a note explaining to add this to one cup of warm milk along with a couple teaspoons of honey. Hope that helps!
