I have been so crazy excited to share this video with you guys.
Seriously. I’m like a little kid.
As soon as I learned that I could make a real food version of magic shell (with only 2-ingredients) I rearranged the production schedule and squeezed this one right into the mix.
Do any of you guys have a guess of which two ingredients are needed?
Well, since I can’t really hear you guys, I’ll just tell you.
Chocolate and coconut oil.
The coconut oil is where the magic happens since coconut oil will melt when heated (or is above room temperature) and will turn solid when it’s cool or cold. So when you pour this sauce over your ice cream the coconut oil gets cold and turns itself and the chocolate into a crunchy shell.
It’s so good! And so fun to make. A must try. Really, especially if you have kids.
In the video below I poured my magic shell over some good old fashioned, organic vanilla ice-cream but if you wanted to keep it super clean, you can try some of these ice-cream recipes as well:
And if you want to learn more about coconut oil, you can check that out right here. Enjoy!!
Two Ingredient ‘Real Food’Magic Shell
Ingredients
- 4 oz dark chocolate
- 1 oz coconut oil
Instructions
- Set up a double boiler (see video for a demonstration). Add the chocolate and coconut oil, stirring periodically, until they have both melted in a smooth sauce. Pour into a mason jar (or some type of glass container) and allow to cool. Pour over ice cream and enjoy!
- *I like to store my magic shell in a mason jar in the fridge. Once I’m ready to use it again, I pop the whole jar into the microwave for 20-30 seconds to loosen it up and then it’s ready to go.

I knew about this but had forgot. So last night I made it and put it over some Ben and Jerry’s…yummy! What a nice treat, thanks for the reminder Dani!
Also I have taken this added sliced almonds, or coconut and pour into a pan and put in the freezer. Then take it out break it up and you have a healthy “candy bar”, but it has to be kept in the refrigerator. Love your site.

When you put it in the mason jar, can u sprinkle in some chopped nuts or seeds so you can have a nutty magic shell?
Your Thoughts on this?
Dani says
You could – but I would save it and just add it when you are ready to eat. This was the nuts don’t get soggy!

You also mentioned it in the video. Sorry, I didn’t notice.

Made this tonight. Yummy! It does taste more like coconut than chocolate. Bought. The chocolate bar from Trader Joe’s. Thanks for the recipe.

I made this when my son came home for a visit. We both used to love Magic Shell. This took just minutes to prepare and we loved it!

Hi Dani!
What kind of chocolate did you use for this? 2g of carbs and 10.5g of fiber! I’m used to seeing those numbers flipped. That has me super excited as I am low carb. Please share. 🙂

Hi Dani, I was Wondering what type of bowl you use that can withstand that type of heat. In the video you mentioned glass, so any type of glass bowl, it won’t burst? I would like to try this right away, looks amazing.Â
