Today I am venturing into new territory and covering a topic I have never touched upon before… Food Dehydration.

Before I jump into all the details, I also want you to know that I am giving away a dehydrator to one of my awesome readers (that means you!) and you can read all the details at the bottom of this post.

I’m not going to go into a ton of written details here because you can learn all of that in the video below. I really did my best to summarize and simplify everything you would need to know to venture into the world of food dehydration.  I want to give you a basic understanding of what it means to dehydrate your food and why you might be interested in giving it a try.

Simply put, all it means to dehydrate food is that you are circulating dry, hot air around and through the food to pull all of the moisture out of the food.  Because the temperatures are kept so low, the food is actually being dried out instead of cooked which allows the food to maintain healthy enzymes and friendly bacteria that would otherwise be destroyed.

This concept can be really exciting for all of the raw foodists of the world, but it was not the selling point for me.

However, there are a lot of other qualities that do get me really excited about dehydrating my food, and they include:

  • Quality control.  I believe that improving the quality of the food we eat is the #1 most important thing any of us can do to improve and support our health goals.  Making homemade snacks in a dehydrator that you would normally buy at a grocery store gives you full control over the quality of your food and the ingredients that you are using (plus homemade always tastes better).
  • Less waste.  If you have a garden or are a member of a CSA (community supported agriculture group)  than you know that oftentimes you find yourself with an abundance of fresh fruits and veggies that you don’t know what to do with and often go to waste.  Using a food dehydrator can preserve those foods so you have seasonal, local food all year round.
  • Saves money.  Once you get past the expense of investing in a dehydrator, not only are you not wasting food, but you can really take advantage of specials at the grocery store and make the most out of a great deal.
  • Reconnects us to our food.  I think this is so important!  It’s so easy these days to toss food and not think twice about where it came from or whether or not we can get more.  I find it really rewarding to preserve my food, as opposed to wasting it.

I’ve been having  a lot of fun with my dehydrator.  So far, I have made apple chips, home-made beef jerky, dried mango, dried garbazo beans, and tahini coated kale chips (recipe + photo below).

Food Dehydration 101
Tahini Kale Chips

If food dehydration is new to you, I highly recommend watching the video below to become more familiar with the whole concept.

And if you find yourself wanting to dive into the world of food dehydration, today is your lucky day, because I am giving away the food dehydrator that I was using in this video (it’s the Tribest Sedona Combo Dehydrator [$450 value]).  Simply scroll down below the video to read how to enter.

Okay. Now for the giveaway details.

I seriously can’t stand give aways that make you tweet this, Facebook that, hop on one foot and jump through 21 hoops.  So I’m going to keep this all very simple.

To enter the Clean & Delicious®  giveaway for the Tribest Sedona Combo Dehydrator all you have to do is leave me a comment down below letting me know why you would love to own a food dehydrator and/or what would be the first recipe you would want to make.

Easy enough, right?

All entries must be received by midnight, PST on Monday Ocotber 20, 2014.  You must be a resident of the United States to enter.  Winners will be chosen via Random.org and will be notified via valid email address (so don’t forget to leave me your email as well).

I think kale chips and dehydrated pineapple would be first on my list. Every time I try to make kale chips in the oven, they come out burned with some pieces still soggy in the middle. And pineapple is my new favorite dried fruit but it’s so expensive!

I would love to win the dehydrator because that way I would have the oppurtunity to try out raw and clean recipes and save money at the same time! The first recipe I would make would be your kale chips or some sort of fruit snack

OOOOOH MY!! I’d love a dehydrator to make healthy snacks for my kids (and me- of course)… I think I’d first make fruit roll ups then dried fruit snacks.. And kale chips… And my husband loves beef jerky. The possibilities are endless!!

I would like to own a food dehydrator to encourage my family to eat more fruits and veggies. I would try dehydrating strawberries since my daughter loves them and always takes them from my cereal.

Who wouldn’t love a free dehydrator. Would try some tomato chips our doctor suggested this summer.

I would love a dehydrator and definitely pineapple and strawberry would be my first adventures into the world!!! I love fruit treats but hate the preservatives in them.

I would love to own a dehydrator so I could take my own prepared food on camping trips and long hikes. I also follow IIFYM, so I am a big on knowing exactly what goes into my food. I would actually love to make those kale chips and experiment with some jerkey.

Oh my gosh, I would love loooove this food dehydrator. So awesome. I had one so long ago, but it wasn’t great quality and I had no idea what to do with it. I would love to try out this recipe and would really like to see more recipes from you using a dehydrator!

I have wanted to try dehydrating for a while now. Living here in Florida we have delicious fruits and veggies that I would love to pack up and take on the go. 🙂

I’ve always wanted to try a dehydrator, just never got around to purchasing one. I would definitely try your Tahini kale recipe first, it looks delish! Also much cheaper than buying it at the store. Xoxo

I would absolutely love a dehydrator! I think I would first experiment with bananas, sweet potato chips, and jerky. I really am interested in clean eating and I follow your guidelines all the time.

I would love to see what kind of snack possibilities there are for a dehydrator! Especially since my dad and I hunt together on occasion, it would be a great way to store meat and avoid some freezer burn. Maybe even make little baggies of things like pineapple rings, cherries and hog, maybe a berry apple venison mix… things could get crazy!

I want the dehydrator to help teach my granddaughter healthy eating habits. I’d make the kale chips first!

Thanks for the video. I would love to win a dehydrator…I have daily battles with picky eaters, especially my toddler and dehydrated fruits and veggies are a great way to “trick” my kiddos into a healthy food choice. Those kale chips would be a great place to start and I would love to do apples, given their bounty right now.

  20. Christina

I’d love to win the dehydrator. I would like to make and preserve my own snacks; and preserve seasonal fruits and veggies. The first recipe I would try is your kale chips.

  22. Irena

    October 7, 2014 at 10:01 pm

A food dehydrator has been on my wish list for such a long time now! My first time trying out dehydrated foods was when my friend gave me a dyhydrated apple slice she bought from Whole Foods, and my-oh-my was it delicious! I want one so I can stop throwing out spoiled fruits (I’m a culprit of buying too much and then not eating all of them) and so my family and I can enjoy an extra, healthy snack, especially since my dad and brother are not exactly healthy eaters.
I would love to make your kale chips and dehydrated fruits with this awesome machine ^.^

I would love to win this dehydrater for my hubby, he’s lost over 200 lbs and I’m so proud of him, with it we could make all kinds of healthy snacks that will keep both of us healthy and happy- and I really like the idea of knowing exactly what goes into your dried foods and snacks 🙂
I would love to try the kale chip recipe yum !
    Good Luck everyone !

I would love to win the food dehydrator because I am diabetic and I am trying very hard to learn easy and delicious snacks etc that are healthy, flavorful AND low in sugar. I think food dehydrating would be an awesome adventure! Kale chips, apples and bananas would be something high on my list of “to-try first” items. Thanks for the giveaway, Dani!

  25. Juanita

    October 7, 2014 at 10:13 pm

I would love to own a dehydrator because I am in the process of losing 80+ pounds and would love to try many raw recipes that require a dehydrator. The first recipe I will try is your kale chips! Thank you for all of your great recipes!

  26. Christina

    October 7, 2014 at 10:22 pm

I’ve wanted a dehydrator for so long! We had one when I was a kid and my mom always made her own beef jerky and banana chips. I’d like to have one today so that I can make the same things with my family – along with kale chips! They are so expensive in the store. I also would like to have one so that I can prepare these things in my own home and know how they are processed. Anything I can make at home is better in my book, and a dehydrator adds so many more fun ideas to this list!

    October 7, 2014 at 10:37 pm

I would love the opportunity to win this dehydrator simply because I’ve been eyeing a dehydrator (not this particular one) for a while now. Not only would it save me tones of money, but I would be able to dehydrate whatever I want whenever I want. Trust me those healthy yummy snacks get a bit pricey over time. Thank you in advance for this opportunity. My fingers are crossed and much luck to everyone!!!

I would love to own a food dehydrated for many reasons. One being that my kids love the veggie chips from whole foods that have carrots, taro and the purple sweet potatoes but they don’t end up eating the green beans and I end up eating those. But it would be so much more cost effective to make my own. The second reason is because I’d really like to try and make beef jerky. I thank you for all the info you give out and hope I am chosen.

I’ve been seeing a lot of dehydrator videos on youtube lately and I’ve been wanting one for awhile now. I’ve viewed another Kale Chip recipe using a dehydrator and it is something I want to try– I’ve never had Kale before, and I figure, what a terrific way to introduce myself to kale!

I’m so glad to see you share this information about the tribest Sedona dehydrator. I have been thinking about taking the plung and getting one but finances are tight right now. I would love to make homemade snacks. I already make my son’s baby food and when the time comes I would love to be able make healthy snacks for him. I have made fruit leather in my oven before but that took nearly 14 hrs to make. One of my favorite dehydrated foods is banana chips though they hard to find unsweetened. That’s probably what I would make first. Thanks for sharing!

    October 7, 2014 at 11:19 pm

Thank you for your 101 video on the Sedona Combo Dehydrator. This definitely caught my interest immediately. I am on a fixed income and started growing my own food this year to save money and grow healthy non GMO foods since food prices have skyrocketed. This dehydrator will enable me to preserve what I can not use immediately. I will also be able to buy org. fruits in season and then dehydrate and use all year long saving $$$. My first try would be kale, which I love then mango, oranges, apples pineapples bananas and straw berries which I use frequently. On my budget I could never afford to buy one so I can only hope the universe will provide it. Thank you again for your attention and your post. Mary Lou

    October 7, 2014 at 11:35 pm

Oh how i would love to win this !! i had one that i over used and broke.

We are avid campers. And we the healthy people hate eating ramen when camping (gluten-free nuts). Any camper out there knows what a luxury it is to be able to carry dehydrated food that can be “cooked” on campfire. Dehydrated campfire recipes are what i would love to make with a dehydrator.

I know Kale chips are the most popular things to do with a dehydrator. But one aspect that is over looked: camping food !! Dear marketing people reading this, tap this market !

  36. Angie

    October 7, 2014 at 11:46 pm

Owning a dehydrator would be amazing! I never thought twice about owning one until this post. I enjoy being out doors a lot and love food–a dehydrator seems to marry these two of my loves perfectly. I can create my own backpacking meals, on the go snack mixes, preserve ingredients for future uses. I hope I win the giveaway but if I dont, I still plan on owning one soon! Thanks for introducing me to this cool kitchen gadget!

I must admit …If I won this it would be my second dehydrator. But it would be well loved and used!! I enjoy dehydrating many things. But my favorite are the time savers, like mixed veggies for soups and sauces. They cut time for busy week nights or for camping/hiking. Can’t get enough use for my dehydrator!

  38. Emily

    October 8, 2014 at 12:32 am

I’d love a dehydrator to make healthy snacks for my family, especially for my son’s school lunches and also for vacations/trips when healthy foods are harder to find. And I love the idea of dehydrating fruits without all the added sugars and oils!

  39. Marie

    October 8, 2014 at 12:32 am

It’s fall in New England. I’d start out with Apple chips and go from there.i have an amazing recipe for dehydrated granola that I’ve never been quite able to replicate.

I like to hunt and a dehydrator would make delicious grass-fed, organic elk jerky!

  41. TiShara

    October 8, 2014 at 12:57 am

My son and I have been wanting a food dehydrator. He does not like to eat vegetable, however he likes to cook. So if he dehydrated his own vegetables and fruit I could get him to make better food choices.

  42. Rohan

    October 8, 2014 at 1:25 am

I would like to make and preserve my own snacks; and preserve seasonal fruits and veggies that go waste sometimes because I don’t know what to do with them when abundant. The first things to try: kale, banana, and sweet potato chips.

  43. Billeejeanne

    October 8, 2014 at 1:28 am

Your kale chips looked so good, will have to try them. I am really enjoying all your videos, thanks!

Been wanting a food dehydrator for awhile. Mainly I want to experiment with another way of eating healthy fruits, veggies, granola, etc. I think I would make sweet potato chips. Luv sweet and salty combo!

  45. Maree

    October 8, 2014 at 2:08 am

Hi Dani! I’m 15 and absolutly adore you and your simple videos…. I would be so grateful to win the dehydrator as I have a huge passion for healthy, clean eating and have been wanting one for years now. However, they have always been extremely expensive so I’ve been trying to save. This would really help me to experiment with the hundreds of different snacks and dishes you can create. One I have been dying to try is Brussels sprout chip, you simply coat the Brussels sprout leaves in coocnit oil, salt and pepper and that’s it! 😉 …. and of course your mount watering kale chips recipe. I believe that there are so many incredible foods and produce within the world which is so incredibly delicious and easy, yet we still reach for the plain, salt and suger overloaded potato chips, therefore these chips are a fantastic alternative that hopefully even my brothers and whole family will enjoy 😀 … Once again thanks for the inspiring and fresh videos and posts xxxxxx

I grow a lot of peppers, so I would love dehydrate these so that I can turn them into a powder for seasoning. My first recipe would be to dehydrate a lot of HOT peppers, then ground them down in a spice grinder. Plain, simple, and a versatile seasoning. I’ve been doing this with store bought peppers, but as we both know, store bought does not compare to what you grow yourself. I also know that some dehydrated items can be rehydrated, and peppers are a perfect candidate for that. I just harvested a dozen plants today, and a dehydrator would definitely help me enjoy what I spent all summer growing organically, last longer. Thanks, Dani.

  47. Geri

    October 8, 2014 at 3:11 am

I’d love to win this dehydrator, but if I don’t, I’ll march right out and get one! I’d make Kale chips immediately, then do some dried parsnips and turnips, potatoes and carrots for soup making! Dried apples and strawberries would be next for adding into cereals and trail mix! So many possibilities! Love your recipes and thorough explanations about how to do everything foolproof. Thanks Dani!

    October 8, 2014 at 5:49 am

I would love a dehydrator in my life to amp up my raw food capabilities. I’ve been a vegetarian for over 20 years and have usually eaten clean and healthy. I’ve destroyed so many batches if kale chips in my oven, and finally moved on to heartier item to dry out, but I know even at my lowest oven setting I’m not doing my organics a service. Naturally my first batch would be dinosaur kale spears with lemon honey and oil like the awesome snacks at Arden’s Garden in Atlanta. Every time I fly in I buy out the display and eat the best kale chips ever. Next I’d try beet chips, plantains, and mushrooms. Yum.

i would LOVE to own this!!! i’d make kale chips, sweet potato chips, and apple chips 🙂 oh and fruit leather!!!

  50. RuggedHomestead

    October 8, 2014 at 6:53 am

I began dehydrating just last year, but to decide if it was something I really wanted to do I picked up one of the cheap ones from Harbor Freight Tools. It’s been useful but it definitely has its limitations as it’s one of those round ones where there’s a heating coil on the bottom and the heat wafts up through the trays. That means the tray on the bottom gets blasted while those above get less heat, which means I find my self constantly rotating them to even things out. As I said, useful, but not efficient. I like the features you mentioned on your model.

I’ve used mine though to make all kinds of fruit chips, but also to dehydrate various vegetables, which I then vacuum seal for long-term storage. Now as I’m starting to harvest a lot of vegetables from my garden, it’s time I consider upgrading my dehydrator to make more efficient use of my time and produce.

Great video, and I’d like to see you making fruit “leather” as well as the jerky you mentioned in the video.

    Cheers,
    Rich

Hi Dani, Kale chips look yummy! I tried making some with an oven at low temp, but it looks much easier to just put them in the dehydrator (plus as u said, it maintains the nutrients 🙂

  52. Sonia

    October 8, 2014 at 7:39 am

I would love to have a food dehydrator so that I don’t have to waste food! I always buy so many fruits & vegetables at the farmers markets that I often don’t gave time yo use it all. A dehydrator would give me more options & opportunities to enjoy healthier snacks.

This would be a treat to have. I recently have gone grain free. I’m experimenting with a lot of different foods and this would be exciting to go in that direction. I would love to try salmon and beef jerky and flaxseed crackers. Come on Radom.org!!

I would make beef jerky, which I make in the oven right now by hanging strips over the rack (messy but gets the job done!). My boyfriend is a commercial fisherman, so I would test out dried fish too. Thanks for this opportunity!

  61. Leilani

    October 8, 2014 at 9:27 am

Banana Chips!! I absolutely love banana chips and that would be the first recipe I would attempt. I would LOVE to own a food dehydrator. I haven’t had one since I was a little kid watching my dad experiment with beef jerky. Oh the good ol’ memories!!

  62. Melissa

I would love a food dehydrator to save on loss of vegetables/fruits. I usually buy lots and at the end of the week I realize that I bought too much and have to throw it any as it is not good anymore.

Kale and Apple chips for me would be the first recipes.

Thank you for your website. I love it!

we have a huge garden and right now I have so much kale! I use it in my shake every morning but would love to dehydrate some kale! Love your blog, I’ve made so many of your recipes and they are all delicious!

  66. JEN

    October 8, 2014 at 9:39 am

Hey Dani! Awesome ideas and great opportunity! Thanks! I’m pretty sure I would try the tahini kale chips first, Since I don’t really care for the fried ones, but love kale and tahini. Then I’d go with dried apples. My kiddos love dried fruits and (a few) veggies… I would love to try making them myself. I just started drying my own herbs in the oven and would love to incorporate that same homemade quality into our snack foods… I’m thinkin’ it would be cheaper too. Thanks again!

  67. Chloe

    October 8, 2014 at 9:43 am

I would love to a dehydrator win because it would be so much extra motivation to eat raw and healthy more often. I see so many saying how much it has changed their eating habits and just made having healthier meals more accessible to them. I also think I would make a flat bread that’s raw gluten free per a recipe from fellow Youtuber Holistichabits.

I would love a dehydrator! I want to make homemade plantain chips and beef jerky…among so many other things!

  69. Karen

I have had my eye on a dehydrator ever since I had dried veggie chips at a rest stop on my way to Woodstock, NY. What a great treat/snack for the kids – they loved eating carrots, turnips and squash chips that day. The first receipe I would try mixed dried veggies with salsa!

I would love to own a food dehydrator because I want to serve only clean food to my children. I would try dehydrating fruit for a sweet on the go snack that is not processed.

Omg! I just want to start off by saying I love love love your channel. The simplicity of your meals makes it achievable for a busy mother of four like myself to eat clean and delicious! I have been wanting to try a dehydrator for sometime now but for a stay at home mom with 4 boys its just not no the budget. I recently gave birth to a set of twin boys that are almost 4months old. I get so busy often times I dont have time eat. I know that winning this give away will enable me to meal prep great and healthy snacks do not just me but my entire family. The first recipe I would make would have to be your delicious kale chips followed by dehydrated banana slices

Wonderful food dehydrator. If wishes could only be true. I could save my dollars on food by dehydrating produce, fowl and meats rather than watch them wither in my frig, or over ripen on my counter and have to toss it out. I would be grateful to win this dehydrator which I could never afford. I would happily share with all, my dehydrated accomplishments. Thank you for allowing me to comment.

What a fantastic give-a-way. We grow and roast our peppers, but I have always wanted to try and dry them. Also, we travel a lot and always take dried fruit as a snack as we are touring wherever we are. Peppers, fruit, kale chips which I have never done would be first on my list. Love your website by the way, always interesting and healthy.

I used an old dehydrator decades ago to make venison jerky and would be delighted to try fruit in this new and improved version of my old plastic dehydrator. Thanks, Dani.

Hi Dani, I love your YouTube learning tools. I’ve been using many of your shows to help our family eat healthier and also incorporating your information with my daycare families.

The dehydrator would not only benefit my family with all the meals, BUT I can also send my son in college healthy foods and also provide more meal choices with daycare families.

My co-worker, for years, has been bringing me dehydrated snacks (apples, tomatoes, and flax crackers.) If I had my own dehydrator I would keep it simple at first. Dehydrated apples provide that crunchy taste in a totally healthy, all-fuel food way. I consider a food dehydrator to be just be another tool in my new path to eating primarily for fuel with some true joy and pleasure tossed in. For too many years I have struggled with “dieting” and the yo-yo effects that produces. I am totally embracing a new way of thinking, moving and eating and a food dehydrator symbolizes for me that new approach.

Wow, interesting, I was just considering dehydrating my food. I had an over abundance of items from my garden. I was reluctant before because I thought that when one dehydrated, the nutrients were lost in the process. My cousin suggested and clarified the usefulness of dehydrating, that is why I was really happy to see your post. I’ve been looking for a dehydrator for the past week. Since I started my own clean eating journey, I’ve become crazy for sweet potatoes. I love crunchy texture but often singe my potatoes in the oven. Sweet potato chips would be my start ,but gosh, I would dehydrate everything, especially fruits and veggies, even though our growing season is wrapping up. My hub and son love jerky so that would probably be second. Thanks as always for the great info.

Hi Dani! First, I love that you don’t make everyone go through the whole Facebook, Twitter thing for a giveaway. Your recipes, tips on making clean, healthy and yes – delicious – food is always an inspiration. I’ve always been a bit intimidated by food dehydrators, if I win I would start with dried apples since they are in season, and then try the kale chips, which I also love. Thanks!!

I still eat the little kids ones all of the time, but I know they have a bunch of stuff in there I should eat. I would love to make some Clean and Delicious ones.

Hi Dani! I love your videos and have started eating a more raw vegan diet. I love dried cranberries in my salads and I buy bulks of it all the time. If I get a good dehydrator, cranberries will be my first thing to make!! I realize that the contest is only for U.S residents but will you consider sending to Canada?? I want a dehydrator because I want to keep snacking healthy and make my own dried snacks at home as well as keep the cost low. Thanks Dani for all the recipes and hard work you out into making clean and delicious videos for everyone!

I love the idea of minimizing waste–I’m famous for buying too much produce, then it goes bad before I can get to all of it! This fancy-shcmancy dehydrator would solve that problem! Sweet potato chips, kale chips, banana chips, dried fruits–I would definitely be busy! Thanks for such great information presented in a fun manner.

I would so love this dehydrator to be able to make healthy snacks for myself & my family! Buying dried fruit can get so expensive & often they’re packed with added sugar, anyway! I’d love to do mango & strawberries, and kale chips for sure!

Oh how I would love a new dehydrator, my old old one took a dump a few months ago, Hhmmm, think the first thing I would make is the kale chips since I keep burning them in the oven every time I make them!

I would love to have a food dehydrator so I could make snacks for my 6 and 7 yr olds. They love fresh fruit, but it doesn’t always travel well. I would try the apple chips first, I know they would love them!! For myself…I would try kale chips because I LOVE KALE!!!

  95. Susan

    October 8, 2014 at 11:26 am

Love the idea of eating good foods like this that are crunchy but not bad for you. Thank you. And, I would try the Kale chips above. I have tried numerous times in the oven only to have burned or soggy chips.

As a senior, adult nutrition is a serious business. We tend to cook less and snack more. I am saddened when my fruits and veggies turn bad before I am able to eat them. I try carrying good healthy snacks when I am out and about but already dehydrated foods are expensive and I am getting tired of nuts and crackers. I would love giving this dehydrator a chance to help me become a healthier older adult. Thank you for sharing your knowledge to the rest of us. So appreciated.

Hi Dani! First of all I LOVE LOVE cleananddeliciou.com!!! I have 6 grandchildren & a couple who struggle with weight, so I thought it would be a great way to make clean & delicious snacks to kept them healthy & help with weight. Being a senior and widow, it’s doubly difficult to eat healthy; shopping and cooking for one is challenging. Therefore, I share a lot of my (your) dishes with my family. And in between, I snack a lot!!! Our fave is your stove top granola with yogurt.

The dehydrator would make a healthier choice and cut down on the spoiled food. My first try would be the kale chips and from there the dried fruit which I know my great grand kids would love. Thanks for you lovely website. I always look forward to your videos and learning healthy choices.

BEST GIVEAWAY EVER! Seriously. I have wanted to jump in to food dehydration for a while now, but haven’t wanted to bite the bullet with the expense. I am just about to have my first baby, so I love the options food dehydration gives for healthy snacking during these first few months when I’m so tired and don’t want to spend a lot of time preparing food when I’m hungry. The first thing I would probably make is kale chips because kale is so healthy and chips are one of the only ways I like to eat them. But I love thinking about the future when my baby gets older and making dried fruit leather, apple chips, sweet potato chips, anything to keep the cherrios and cheeze-its out of our house! I also would love to dry citrus for holiday decorating! The possibilities are ENDLESS! 🙂

i can’t tell you how long i have been wanting a food dehydrator but unfortunately it is not in my budget. I would likely to some kind of fruit first – whatever is currently in season.

  114. Rachel

    October 8, 2014 at 1:30 pm

Hello! First off I would like to say that your recipes are amazing! I have been into clean eating for 3 years now and it makes my body feel so good and healthy. I am now a freshman in college and clean eating has become a challenge, but I am trying my best! Keeping produce is quite hard since it can spoil easily, so having dried fruit and veggies are much easier for me to store and eat. The dried fruit here have a lot of added sugars and preservatives, which turns me off from, eating them. I would love to have a food dehydrator so it can help me continue in clean eating and help me with my college budget. The first recipe I would try would definitely be kale chips. I love that super food! Thanks so much for the opportunity.

  115. Madeleine

    October 8, 2014 at 1:36 pm

Oh, Dani, my eyes completely lit up when I opened this email! I’ve been following C&D since I cooked my first spaghetti squash in college 4 years ago (thanks, YouTube search bar!) and am always so comforted and inspired by your accessibly healthy recipes, reliably delicious foods, and uniquely consistent style of blogging and video-ing. Two years out of college and a self-proclaimed clean food experimenter extraordinaire, owning a dehydrator has been a fantasy of mine. The ladel-wedged-in-the-oven-door method has its drawbacks :). The first recipe I’d make would probably be almond flour (via leftover almond milk pulp), herbed flax/chia crackers, fruit leather, or clean and delicious tahini kale chips! Thanks for the opportunity.

  116. Jean Sundquist

    October 8, 2014 at 1:39 pm

We don’t have a large freezer or much storage. This would help us to eat healthy and always have food on hand. I would probably dehydrate vegetables for soups.

  117. Nick

    October 8, 2014 at 1:42 pm

Yum! Your tahini kale chip recipes sounds delicious. I would make a spicy nacho kale chip recipe (using a roasted red pepper and cashew butter blend to make the “nacho” flavor”) as well as zucchini chips!

  118. shannon dickey

    October 8, 2014 at 1:51 pm

Im so glad you did this video. I have never used a dehydrator and have usually steered cleared of those foods in the grocery store because they always seem to have so much added sugar. If I had this dehydrator I could make so many healthy options for my family especially for my daughter and encourage her to eat healthy and try new things. The Kale chips look great. I think I would try some fruit for sure and I would love to make turkey jerky 🙂 Thanks for always giving such healthy and fun options for food!!!!!!

  119. Amy

    October 8, 2014 at 2:02 pm

I recently began clean eating and saw your kale recipe for food dehydration on my YouTube subscription feed. If I had a dehydrator I would start making my own snacks. Ive always wanted to make green beans with a spicy seasoning or my very own sun chips variety using carrots, green beans, sweet potato, taro and beets with a spice ontop.(I like spicy snacks). Im also interested in learning to store foods so this dehydrator would be great. When trying new recipes your channel is my first stop for ALL food-ventures. Great giveaway!

  120. Jenn Sibiga

    October 8, 2014 at 2:17 pm

I have a friend who just got a dehydrator and she loves it! I would love to win this to experiment with different foods and hopefully find that using it will produce some yummy healthy snacks that even my picky toddler would be willing to eat! The first thing I’d make would be sweet potato chips! Mmm mmm! Or perhaps beef jerky… yes.. that does sound delicious! 🙂

  121. Carlyn

    October 8, 2014 at 3:08 pm

I would love to win this prize, I would never be able to afford this dehydrator other wise. I’m always snacking and sometimes I don’t make the best choices, having this dehydrator would be awesome. The possibilities are endless with the amount of recipes I can make.I think the first I would try are sweet potatoes, plantains, banana and the tahini kale chips.

  122. Joleen Graves

    October 8, 2014 at 3:36 pm

I would love to win the dehydrator!!! I’ve always wanted one but didn’t have the money for it. I would want to make kale chips and maybe carrot chips. I’m trying to find creative ways for my one year old to eat more veggies. He went on a veggie strike around his first birthday.

  123. Marie L

    October 8, 2014 at 3:42 pm

Would love to win this dehydrator. Next step towards my healthy lifestyle change!!

  124. Joan Kubes

I have so much produce from my garden so I could really use this! I’d definitely try the Tahini Coated Kale Chips.

  125. Julia

    October 8, 2014 at 4:13 pm

Hmmm, a dehydrator….I’d probably make some dried mangoes first. I am head over heals in love with mangoes in any form or shape. I was lucky enough to eat a ton of dried philippine mangoes this summer – so-so good, virtually impossible to stop eating them!

  126. Diane Autry

    October 8, 2014 at 4:38 pm

I am new to clean eating and it has been a huge challenge to break away from “old food habits”. Having a dehydrator would really help me preserve food for snacks and “go to” foods for fast snacks. Eating clean has really changed my life and I find your site recipes so much help. I am beginning to use them more and more. This dehydrator will help economically and nutritionally.
    Thanks,
    Diane Autry

I would love to own a dehydrator so I could get some nutrition into my very picky eater. She’s 7 and does not nearly get enough of the stuff. I’ve tried just about everything and dehydrating the foods just might be the trick. I would start off with the kale chips and progress forward with other veggies – she will eat fruit but veggies are not on the menu for her and they need to be.

  128. Roberta

    October 8, 2014 at 5:31 pm

I would make a ton of snacks for my kids to have at school and kale with tahini????….have to try that one!

  129. Rashida

    October 8, 2014 at 5:37 pm

Well, I am already a loser as I live in the United Kingdom., but you can still pick me as a winner . I can provide my cousin’s address. I threw ton of pulp from my juicer. If I had a dehydrator I would have made biscuit out of the pulp. These kind of biscuit are sold here and they are very expensive.my luck is in your hand now.

  130. Liz B

    October 8, 2014 at 5:39 pm

As a nutrition teacher, I would use this both at home and with my students. I would love to make the kale chips, as well as strawberries, blueberries, cherries, and pineapple. I think it would also be cool to try and make jerky.

  131. Kelsey

    October 8, 2014 at 6:06 pm

This is a concept that is fairly new to me but I love the idea of being able to preserve fruit and veggies as mine often go bad very quickly (being I buy organic). I’m a college student and it’s challenging cooking for one, there is always a lot of waste. This waste frustrates me week after week because I spend a lot of money on good organic food only to have much of it spoil before I can eat it! I believe a new dehydrator would certainly help to eliminate this waste and also lower my budget every week! I also am big into sustainability and everything “green” so I would love to say I am doing my part in regards to lessening food waste.
I think the first thing I would make would be Kale chips! I would also make a dehydrated fruit, most likely pineapple or strawberries that I could eat as a healthy snack or in my morning yogurt/oatmeal/cereal! Thanks so much for the opportunity, good luck to all!

  132. Jeanne

    October 8, 2014 at 6:20 pm

Neither my daughter nor I have been able to consistently make kale chips properly and this is one vegetable my grandchildren love. Also, it would be lovely to be able to offer them healthy dried fruits and veggies in their lunch bags.

  133. Dee

    October 8, 2014 at 6:31 pm

I have tried multiple times to make kale chips in my oven and have always been disappointed. Dehydrating is a great way to preserve food! After the initial dehydration, the storage takes 0 energy! No freezers or boiling water baths! Preserving our food is becoming a lost art. I love to eat dried fruits and feel it is so much better for our bodies than other preservative filled snacks. I think the first thing I would try to make is the kale chips. It would be great to satisfy that “crunch” craving with something that would be great for my body!

  134. Charlie

    October 8, 2014 at 6:41 pm

It would be great to have a dehydrator. Food is so expensive for the average family that will allow ours to really stretch our dollars. I think the first thing we would make are apple chips as they’re in season right now!

  135. renee

    October 8, 2014 at 7:08 pm

I’ve been borrowing my friends dehydrator. I would make kale chips, apple rings, jerky, leathers, dehydate potatoes for backpacking, why not some beans and lentils. Make into a dry soup mix along with veggies!

  136. Kristyn Appel

    October 8, 2014 at 7:15 pm

I would love to win because it would help me be able to make my own healthy snacks and try new recipes and foods that I always want to make but do not have the materials to do it myself, and I can not afford this awesome dehydrator! thank you for the chance 🙂

  137. Selena

    October 8, 2014 at 7:32 pm

That’s awesome, I love dehydrated apples too!

  138. Cindy

    October 8, 2014 at 7:51 pm

I would love to win this dehydrator. I have a garden that has been producing tons of produce. I am tired of canning and freezing everything. I would like to try to dehydrate some of it. I think I would try making the Kale Chips first and then dehydrate some of my tomatoes.

  139. Sylvia

    October 8, 2014 at 8:30 pm

Oh Dani…what a wonderful giveaway. I have dreamed of having a dehydrator for so long. I participate in a food co-op. It is so nice to get lots of fresh fruits and vegetables…sometimes more than my family can eat. Dehydrating them would be a great way to eliminate waste.
I am also interested in emergency preparedness. I would much prefer to dehydrate and store my own food instead of buying MRE’s.
Thank you for the opportunity to win this beautiful dehydrator.

  140. Laura

    October 8, 2014 at 8:41 pm

I would totally love to have one of these! I think I would keep it “boring”. Bananas and pineapple for me! 🙂

  141. Leslie N

    October 8, 2014 at 8:54 pm

I think a variety of dried fruit is where I would start. Hope I win!

  142. Patricia J

Would love to dehydrate my garden harvest for my wonderful family. Definitely would start with the kale chips.

  143. Tashi Lhamo

    October 8, 2014 at 8:58 pm

I would love to win dehydrator because I’m obsess with clean, healthy and delicious foods, and it’s hard to find snacks that contain all of these. Having dehydrator will make much easier to have healthy and delicious snacks. And of course I would first want to try your Tahini Coated Kale Chips because I love kale.

  144. Agnes

    October 8, 2014 at 9:53 pm

I love crunchy food but this type of food out there are full of salt and unhealthy ingredients. Having a dehydrator means healthy life. Yes, I will definitely want one of this in my home and Kale chips sound so delicious and will be #1 on my list.

  145. Shon

I would to have a dehydrator so that I can tryout a mango recipe. The ones you purchase in the store have added sugar which I would like to eliminate.

Hi Dani, I am SOOOO glad that I discovered your blog about a year ago, and can’t wait for your next videos and posts each week! As someone who struggles with poor food choices, your approach of grace and loving ourselves has helped me so much. My default is to bash myself, but more and more quickly, I give myself grace and pick up with better choices for the next meal rather than days or weeks of just giving up. Thank YOU!! I have been considering dehydrating for some time and this video has given me the information I was looking for to jump in! We have a wonderful, year-round garden in the San Diego area, and after my friends, neighbors and hens have had their fill, I need to somehow preserve our bountiful harvest so it doesn’t go to waste. I also train service dogs for our Wounded Warriors at Camp Pendleton and we use LOTS of treats in their positive reinforcement training and dehydrating fruits, veggies, and meats and fish will make great healthy treats for them. (You wouldn’t believe the harmful ingredients in most dog foods and treats!) I would LOVE to be the winner of your wonderful dehydrator, but will love you always either way. 🙂 Thank you for genuinely caring about your followers, Dani. Love and prayers to you and your adorable family. Blessings, Laurie

I look forward to drying tomatoes and onions. Years ago my mom dried onions and gave me some. They were so handy to throw into soups in the winter. What a great contest, Dani! I love that it is a tool to help make healthy foods and snacks.

I would love to win a dehydrator because I’m going to school in upstate New York, and there is very little access to fresh, local foods during the winter months (more than half of the year!). A dehydrator would be an amazing way for me to be able to squirrel away food, as freezing it has really been altering the taste of produce.

First thing I would dehydrate is definitely some meat! Beef jerky is such a great on-the-go snack for me, as it’s super easy to take with me, doesn’t squish, and gives me something to chew on so I don’t immediately reach for more. I’m super interested in trying new and lower sodium versions of beef jerky since the store options are all super salty (and only come in like, two flavors: original and teriyaki) and pricey!

I would love to have this dehydrator! The amount of healthy snacks to make would be awesome! I would definitely start out with some kale chips and some sweet potato chips. I would also maybe try out some jerky!

I would love to win the dehydrator because I love fruits and vegetables! Getting a dehydrator would be an awesome way to eat fruits and vegetables in a new(and homemade) way. I think the first thing I would make if I got a dyhydrator would have to be apple chips and tahini coated kale chips(they look absolutaly delicious).

    October 9, 2014 at 10:34 am

How could I possibly decide where to start. I would love to make dried apples, pineapple, kale chips. I even want to try zucchini (to use in place of pasta in recipes).I would love a dehydrator, I’m pretty sure a dehydrator would work better then the oven 🙂

I would love to have a dehydrator and this one looks amazing. I have been thinking about getting one for a while now! I would probably start with drying fruit. My 13 year old son loves dried fruit but I don’t like buying it for the obvious reasons…too many preservatives and added sugar! I would next make the kale and sweet potato chips!

    October 9, 2014 at 11:02 am

I would definitely want to do fruit leathers for my kids and kale chips. I can’t do them in the oven 🙁 I always burn them. I have been wanting a dehydrator for years, but just can’t afford it.

Hi Dani! I love this recipe. I want to try it. We have an old round dehydrator that we got when we got married 23yrs ago. Its seen better days but still works. We are trying to get a nice garden going, so a quality dehydrator would be an awesome blessing. I have recently been making my sons fruit roll ups or fruit leather in our oven, so I think I would try that in this dehydrator first, if I won. Thanks for a great video and info.

I would LOVE to win a food dehydrator because I just got engaged and want to be in the best health possible for my wedding. The dehydrator would allow me to make yummy and healthy snacks so I can stay on track with my health goals. I know it’s going to be stressful at times planning the biggest party (by far!) that I’ve ever planned, and I plan to set myself up for success when all the stress kicks in. If I’m going to have an occasional “stress snack”, I want to have a whole, nutritious one!

I think I would start with some clean meat… I love jerky, but the stuff at the store is so full of junk! And some berries! And bananas! OK… I will dehydrate anything and everything I can get my hands on!

    🙂

Hey Dani, thanks for sharing this video. I’ve never thought about dehydrating food ….I thought it would be complicated!!! Seams easy enough!!. My daughter LOVES dehydrated mango and I’ve been buying it at Sam’s Club but it is SOOO expensive. Now I can do at hope for a fraction of the cost!

Hi Dani, I have always wanted a dehydrated special now than ever because I am more conscious of what I put in my body and I know that it’s important to eat clean not only for me but my family. I didn’t read the other 165 comments so my response may seem odd (or not). I REALLY want a food dehydrator for my beloved senior dog, 9-year-old Maylea.

I have been treating her with all natural dehydrated sweet potatoes that I get from the pet store, but they are really expensive. But they keep her “regular” and I enjoy making my “girl” happy.

I made some at home about a week ago utilizing the oven but they didn’t dehydrate completely. She still loved them but they don’t last as long. The idea of having to watch my oven for hours is daunting. Plus, I know I could find dozens of other options to use for myself. But she comes first.

I have several friends who own dehydrators but the challenge of transporting it across Nashville and returning it is a bit much.

Maylea hopes you pick us since it would fill her treat box. Too bad I can’t attach a picture of her or you would be “sold” on us. I wouldn’t mind making some jerky for myself. 😉

My family loves to camp and I am always buying dried fruit or beef jerky (always the no nitrate, organic variety). It would be great to make my own. I would also try the Kale chips, no sugar banana chips, and some dehydrated greens, then chopped into a powder to add to smoothies, meals, etc.

  176. Rachel O

    October 10, 2014 at 11:20 am

Because of some recent health problems, I can no longer eat most snack foods (even organic and whole food ones) owning a dehydrator would make it so much more simple to make some delicious snacks that I can enjoy!

Being sugar and flour free, I would make crackers first. I miss having them to go with salads and soups. My Vegan friend, Mark, makes them all the time, and they are delicious! I’m sure he’d be happy to share his recipe! There are so many uses for a dehydrator — I’d keep it busy for sure!

Love this giveaway! I have wanted a food dehydrator for a while. I have been using my oven to dehydrate my food but found it is so hard to get the food to come out right. The first thing a would make is cabbage stakes.

Hi Dani, Love your quick and delicious videos. I have been wanting a dehydrator for several years now but have not been in the position to afford one. Your video made it look so good! I garden and I hope to expand to adding some fruit trees and berry bushes next year. A dehydrator would be a wonderful addition to my kitchen allowing me to dry foods as well as can and freeze them. Thanks for all your wonderful videos and recipes!

    October 10, 2014 at 9:23 pm

The first thing I would make with the new dehydrator are the tahini kale chips! I have a very (very) old dehydrator that is on its last leg. I used it 30 years ago a ton when my kids were growing up, less for a few years and more again the last five. It is such a healthy way to preserve food and I don’t have to have freezer space for it. My old dehydrator has been a good one, obviously, but I do have some duct tape holding some of the trays together! I would love to win this. Thanks for the chance!

  185. Bethany

    October 10, 2014 at 9:49 pm

Hi Dani, I would love to win the dehydrator, as I cannot eat nuts unless they have been soaked first, due to digestive issues. I love nuts, and I know that they make great healthy snacks, but without dehydrating them after soaking, there’s not much that can really be done with them (aside from baking). The first thing I would do would be to soak a bunch of nuts, then dehydrate them 🙂 Although, I live in Australia, so not sure if this giveaway is open to Aussies – no worries if it isn’t 🙂

Soooooooo many possibilities! With the garden winding down, I’d love to dehydrate tomatoes seasoned with basil for lo-cal ‘tomato chips’ and grind some to powder for reconsituting into quick sauce/paste. Also, treating pumpkin and winter squash the same way would save so much cooking time later and storage space! Maybe pumpkin pie flavored crackers? (My imagination is running wild 🙂 )

One of my favorite time-saving tips from your videos was simply cooking extra rice and storing it in the freezer or fridge. I’d like to make my own ‘instant’ brown rice and beans for quick meals later, or combination of seasoned quinoa and rice. These would be great bases for quick meals as an alternative to those fast food drive-through’s.

I’d also love to experiment with fruit combinations for fruit roll-ups.

And then there are the possibilities of drying the herbs from the garden instead of freezing them in butters……and making my own onion or garlic or sweet red pepper powders…..

Soooooooo many possibilites! And, of course, kale chipe 🙂

I would love to be able to dehydrate food as snacks for my toddler. He is more of a grazer and it would be a good way to get him to eat his veggies and fruit. I would love to do all sorts of fruits and veggies and yogurt! The first thing I would do would probably be bananas. They are the little ones favorite!

    Hello Dani,

I’m changing my life style and need to start to eat way better than I have in the past. I’ve been looking at ways to eat better and lose my unhealthy weight. I want to be healthy and happy again for me, and my family. I would like to find ways to prepare food in a dehydrator so I can take it to work. I work outside were the heat is sometimes too much. I find that trying to take sandwiches and other foods that need to say cool a big hassle. I find my food soggy most of the time and un-eatable. Let’s just say I end up getting something fast food like or a bag of chips that just add to my already over weight status. I believe that I could dehydrate food that I could keep in my work truck and not worry about the heat anymore. I would like to try my hand at fruit strips (fruit roll-ups). Thanks for the inspiration you give me with you cooking ideas.

Some competition already but I am doing your roasted-off the stalk-brussel spouts this very minute and wonder what a dehydrator/balsamic vinegar roasted brussel sprout reduction would be like? Would dehydrate everything possible, to include the dog food. Whahoo. xo

Kale chips and flaxseed crackers would be my first recipes I would like to dehydrate. I would love a dehydrator so that I can still preserve the enzymes of the veggie/fruit but have it in a different state than raw…

  194. Angela maas

    October 11, 2014 at 6:03 pm

I would love to have my own dehydrator to store fruits and vegetables for the winter. The first thing I would make is fruit leather.

    October 11, 2014 at 7:30 pm

I would first love to make the kale chips. Then sweet potato chips & maybe even my own bread. Two weeks ago I have started a raw eating lifestyle which I will eventually consume vegan food. I have decided to claim my life back & start eating healthy.

  196. Tiffany Jennings

    October 11, 2014 at 9:19 pm

Hey Dani! So being a new resident to Florida, I am discovering that everything molds and rots VeRy fast. I lost several mangos and pineapple this season because I simply could not eat them fast enough…I hate to waste food, and I know a food dehydrator would be the perfect fix!
I would first make lots of yummy snacks for the people at my work, so they don’t just munch of doughnuts. I would like to try dehydrating kale, pineapple, banana and of course, Mangos! ** Woo Hoo **

  198. Mollie

    October 11, 2014 at 10:20 pm

Well, I really love & need this dehydrator. I have recently been diagnose with a rare disorder & been advised by my doctors at Stanford not to eat raw veggies. I missed my raw foods & the nutritional benefits, I had hope that I would be blessed with a dehydrator soon. As soon as I get it , I would crank that baby up & turn my juice pulp into crackers. Bring it on!

I’d love to have another dehydrator, mine got tired & went to the big oven depository in the sky. I like making jerky:)

    October 12, 2014 at 11:27 am

My hubby and I have wanted to purchase a dehydrator for years to make Kale chips. We have apple farms around us so the Clean and Delicious recipe for apples would be a must. Love your channel and blog. Your can do attitude has encouraged me to try new recipes (like homemade almond milk). Thank you!

  204. Rebecca

    October 12, 2014 at 11:29 am

I would love to be able to store , fruits, veggies, meats, beans or any other type of food long term. Especially as the food prices go up! This would be a wonderful thing to have in our home! Thanks for the chance to win this beautiful dehydrator !! Thanks

  205. Jessica Pruneda

    October 12, 2014 at 11:35 am

I would love to own the dehydrator because I’m trying to break the processed food habit for my family and get us eating healthier foods and snacks. I really think this would help!
The first thing I would like to try making is fruit leather. My 3 year old son would would enjoy helping me make this snack for him. I would also like to try making kale chips, and apple and banana chips.

  206. Kim

    October 12, 2014 at 11:37 am

My daughter showed me this contest – she’s been asking for a dehydrator for months! We would start with the kale chip recipe above – sounds so yum! We are huge fans of tahini on everything – drizzled on roasted brussel sprouts is a fav at our house. Then it would be spiced apples and pears. It’s Canadian Thanksgiving and I’m in full fall mode this weekend… 🙂
    Best of luck to all!

  208. Danielle

    October 12, 2014 at 12:05 pm

I love to sprout all of my nuts and seeds. It would be amazing to have a dehydrator to dry the nuts and seeds and make them awesomely crunchy. I would also make veggie chips and cakes in the dehydrator. Thanks!

    October 12, 2014 at 12:06 pm

I am the only one I my family who enjoys healthy eating. So, I find myself spending all of my time focused on their menu, leaving little time to prepare special treats for myself. This would be so nice to have! I love jerky!! But the store bought bags are ANYTHING but healthy! Being able to control ingredients would make me very happy!!

  210. Gigi

    October 12, 2014 at 12:19 pm

This would be fantastic! I’d start with apples, beef jerky, and pineapples. A great way to preserve fresh fruits and veggies while they are in season, and have them available when they are not.

  211. LEILA

    October 12, 2014 at 12:21 pm

I would love to do the Kale chips but add some chia seeds, grounded flax and hemp seeds in this new addition of our family, the dehydrator….Thanks a lot

  212. Kristina Smith

    October 12, 2014 at 12:23 pm

I would go dried food crazy! I think banana chips would be the first thing I’d make. I thought about beef jerky being first, but I figure there’s less I can mess up with fruits or veggies. So banana chips, then kale, and then work up to jerky.

I think I’d really love to own one because I wouldn’t worry about wasting food as much. I want to buy fresh produce, but I don’t as much as I should because I’m scared it’ll go bad before I can use it all up. Having a food dehydrator would allow me to buy the produce for whatever recipe and use what I need and dehydrate the rest. I think I’d end up buying and eating a lot more veggies that way. And my husband and I need more veggies in our diets.

  213. Sandy sines

    October 12, 2014 at 12:25 pm

Hi Danny! I would love to make cinnamon apple chips, those are one of my favorite chips and it’s also healthy for you.

  214. Stephanie

    October 12, 2014 at 12:26 pm

I have always wanted to own a dehydrator but found they are very expensive. I would love to make more clean meals for myself and family and fruits and vegetables can go bad if not eaten soon after purchase. I would first make kale chips because this is one of the few healthy foods that I can get my son to eat. Then I would make pineapples, apple chips, and mangoes! The possibilities are endless!

  215. Tricia

    October 12, 2014 at 12:31 pm

I loved what you said about not depriving ourselves of the foods we love. I tried for a little while and I realized good food and drink shared with loved ones is important to our happiness, and therefore our health.
Thank you for hosting the giveaway for the dehydrator. My mom used to make the most mouthwatering beef jerky. So the first thing I would do if I won is call her and get that recipe!

I’ve been wanting a dehydrator for a while now, but didn’t know much about the differences in the cheaper ones vs the higher quality, more expensive ones. This one looks like the mother of all dehydrators! What WOULDN’T I make with this baby! hmmm…fruit leather, dried tomatoes, kale, apples, strawberries, mangoes, herbs, garlic, even jerky!! The possibilities are endless!

I would love to have a Dehydrator because I go on a lot of backpacking trips so I could use it and save a lot of money on dried fruit, beef jerky, etc. also, my favourite hiking supper is spaghetti, which you CAN make in a dehydrator! Amazing what they can do 🙂 anyway, I am going on a backpackig trip in a couple of weeks and so the first thing I would make is definitely some beef jerky and vegetarian spag 🙂

I have lost 102 lbs in the last year and a half and am learning to eat “clean and delicious”. I am trying to slowly move my family in the same direction. My developmentally disabled daughter is pretty obese. I bought her some apple chips a week or so ago and she loves them so they would probably be the first thing I would make!

    Dear Dani,

This is an awesome contest. However, as a loyal Canadian reader, I am ineligible to submit an entry. BOO!
Chickpeas and kale would have been my first recipe though – great tv/movie snack seasoned with a little kosher salt and ground pepper. Yum!

I would definitely try kale chips, but also all fruit because it’s been so hard to find anything that doesn’t have the added sugar.

Dani, I truly love your show and always look forward to the bloppers at the end. We will be moving into our new home in a month and as I do the cooking in our home, I would love to have a Tribest Sedona Combo Dehydrator in my new kitchen. The first thing I would dehydrate in it would be the cinnamon apple chips! Love dem apples.

Thanks for all the great ideas and recipes. I am a site manager for 12 campgrounds during the summer months (6). Having dehydrated foods on hand is my preference for snacks. I don’t have a lot of space or time (live in a 5th wheel) to bake/prepare nutritious meals so having a dehydrator would work well for me. I want to try your “apples/cinnamon” recipe first, looks easy and tasty. Then, maybe a “pineapple/coconut” cookie.

I would SO love to receive this!!! I really want to buy one as I’ve become vegan, but can’t afford to because I take care of my 93 year old mother and can no longer work.

    I am PRAYING!
Thanks SO much for offering this!

I have tried a dehydrator in the past that was of poor quality. I have been reluctant to try again because my results were disastrous. This unit looks fabulous. I have wanted to dry fruits and vegetables again and thought about doing so in my oven but was concerned about the extra energy use. I would love to try this 🙂 thanks for the chance! I would like to try sweet potato chips as my first recipe. Good luck everyone !!

    October 12, 2014 at 3:25 pm

I would definitely dehydrate some meat for jerky to send to my husband who is in Afghanistan. He keeps asking me to send him snacks and he is trying to eat healthy over there. It would be awesome to be able to make it myself and know it is all good. Oh I could send him dried fruits too! What a great opportunity to get a food dehydrator! Pick me Dani!

    October 12, 2014 at 3:28 pm

I have so many recipes I want to try out. I really want to make kale chips, apple chips and pineapple chunks but hands down the first thing I want to make is banana chips! My husband LOVES banana chips, I’ve tried to make them before and it was an epic fail! I did the bake on super low for a really long time. They shriveled up to almost nothing and still weren’t crunchy.

Would love to get the dehydrater. I have been interested in dehydrating foods for some time and expense has made me hesitate. I would love to try the Kale Chips and also try some sweet potatoe chips as both would be wonderful snacks and another way to get some veggies in my diet. I am needing to lose weight so I can get knee replacements done, so really trying to get back to whole foods as a way of doing this. Thanks!!

It seems as the older I get (I am 38 now), I crave for something sweet and my son buy me these gummy life saver candies. I know they’re not good for me, but it seems to do the trick. If I was to win this dehydrator I could replace that candy by using pineapple and mango first, I could taste it now. Then I would adventure off by trying something different every time. Pinterest has a load of ideas for sweets, savory, and everything else under the sun. I would also be showing my son a different way of eating sweets. Treat bags for the kids on movie night. Jerky treats for the adults on game night. I know you said name the first thing, but you got me thinking, all of the possibilities. Fun! Fun! Fun!

We still have lots of peppers and even some tomatoes from this year’s garden. I would love to try dried peppers in a dehydrator. Those we do in the oven never come out quite right. So probably peppers (both hot and sweet) first. Next up would be apples. We’re headed to apple country soon.

Onions! Love, love, love, crispy toppings on everything, and there must be work-around of my current (unhealthy) favorite – French fried onions. My first dehydrating project (in that awesome Tribest Sedona) would be lots of scrumptious shallots, experimenting with all different kinds of no-salt seasonings. Yum! (Dani, your honesty is so refreshing. You truly make all things food just plain fabulous and fun!)

Tahini kale chips for sure!!! I used to work for a raw food company long ago and
Was shocked to learn how beneficial it is to cook in the dehydrator vs the oven. Even if I don’t get a dehydrator this post has inspired me to eat more raw foods. Perhaps i’ll go soak sine almonds in the fridge now. 😉

Wow! What a cool dehydrater! Mine is at least 20 years old and the little wires in the bottom have been soldered once. So I would love to use a new model for the 25 pounds of cranberries we picked up at the marsh. I’d also like to try kale chips, too. My first effort in the conventional oven can certainly be improved on.. Thanks for the opportunity to win this.

    October 12, 2014 at 10:10 pm

Dani first let me say you are terrific!!!! Probably the first thing I would make would be some kind of cookie with my left over almond pulp from when I make home made almond milk. Of course I would also try your kale chip recipe. Thanks for all the fun and delicious recipes. I really enjoy your videos (Especially the out takes…hilarious!!)

Hi Dani, I just got introduced to your site and videos by a friend and I absolutely love them. This video brings back memories for me as the last time I’ve worked with a food dehydrator was back in elementary school with my best friend who’s parents had one. We used to make fruit roll ups using whatever fruit we could get our hands on and blend up. If you have any recipes for fruit that have spice mixtures that pair well with it I would love to see some videos of that. I’m sure there are a lot of fruit and spice mixtures that are creatively fun that I wouldn’t think to pair together. I would love to win this dehydrator and see if I could come up with some of my own!

Thanks for all your recipes and ideas. I have been in the market for a dehydrator lately. I work the summer months as a site manager for 12 campgrounds. Don’t have a lot of time to prepare nutritious meals. My first try would be your apple recipe, then I have a recipe for pineapple/coconut chips.

  281. Charlene

I have a 5 year old daughter that is a very picky eater, but she loves apples and strawberries. I would start by having her help me prepare the fruit when in season so we can enjoy it much longer. I’m also looking for a way to include even more veggies, so I love the kale chip recipe!!

  284. Troy

    October 13, 2014 at 10:45 am

My younger son, Army Major, is being medically discharged from the Army. He is suffering from a myriad of medical issues and is sick & weak. He & his family (total 5) will be moving back in with us to heal. I have spent literally 100s of hours studying nutrition & gut healing & feel that I have good knowledge to get him well on his way to better health (I realize he still reqs med attention). The dehydrator would be such a help. Fruits, kale chips, healthy beef jerky…saw a video for plantain chips that looked really good. My head is spinning with useful thoughts. As a mother my heart cries for my son & all our sick warriors. Thank you for this opportunity…

HI Dani! I would love to win this dehydrator! I would love to experiment – make lots of fruits – blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, apples…. It would be so fun to make a delicious snack mix with dried fruits and nuts for my family. I know my son would dive into making beef jerky. It is so hard to find good jerky without added sugar. Having a dehydrator would just add more fun and adventure to the clean and delicious food journey. Thanks for the opportunity, Dani!

My sister lived in Hawaii and was able to get mangos from trees in her yard. She would dehydrate those fresh mangos and send them to us and they were so delicious! That is the first thing I would use the dehydrator for. I miss those dried mangos so much. I know mine wouldn’t be as fresh from the trees my sister sent but I think I would still love them.

I have a very old inexpensive dehydrator which barely works anymore. I am actually afraid to make jerky in it because it works so poorly now. I would love to have a new nice one and the first thing I would make would be jerky.

  291. Jessica

    October 13, 2014 at 12:59 pm

I would make either kale chips or turkey jerky. I can’t have certain seasonings and most of the time I feel limited in what I can eat. A dehydrator would empower me to freely and to not feel so restricted.

My daughter-in-law and son are very vigilant re all the foods he cannot eat because of the various ingredients he’s not able to digest. His diet is very bland because of all the restrictions but feel he would be able to eat more of the wonderful dehydrated foods available with the dehydrator. Thank you. Stay well and happy.Joan

I refer to you for help preparing a lot of healthy recipes. Your videos are much appreciated! I would love to learn to make deer jerky to share with family and friends. Hi Dani! 🙂

I am really excited about this dehydrator so that I can continue making your recipes. I’ve been following your channel and site for over a year now, and i’ve learned how to live a more healthy lifestyle because of your advice. I’m most excited to make your apple cinnamon chips because i’m extremely allergic to raw apples, peaches, plums, etc, and a dehydrator changes the shape of the molecule, making it possible for me to consume these nutritious fruits which I otherwise would never be able to eat.

Thank you for the opportunity and I hope you are having a lovely day!

Your cinnamon apple chips have really activated my salivary glands, and that’s probably what I would try first. Second might be cinnamon banana chips. Excuse me, I need to get a towel to catch the drool. I’m really enjoying your site and appreciate that you include videos for those of us who do better seeing a recipe put together.

I have been wanting a food dehydrator for a while. Number 1 on my list is dried mango for myself and my daughter. We can’t ever get enough mango! My husband is crazy for beef jerky but reading the label on the jerky disgusts me, so I would love to make it myself. And we can’t forget our puppy, a french bulldog who would love dried sweet potatoes.

Hi Dani, great video! I would LOVE to have a food dehydrator because one of my biggest challenges to eating clean & delicious is grab and go snack food on the run. How helpful would this be?!!

  305. David

    October 14, 2014 at 5:01 am

The first thing I would make in this dehydrator is banana chips!

  306. Cheryl

    October 14, 2014 at 5:01 am

I would love to have a food dehydrator like this one. I would use it often for dehydrating raw pulp from juicing fruits and greens along with ground flax seed to make a healthy sort of cracker without preservatives or other suspicious ingredients. I am doing that now in my oven, but a real dehydrator, especially one with controls for raw food would work so much better.

  307. Janet

    October 14, 2014 at 9:20 am

I would love a food dehydrator. We struggle in our family to eat healthy. It’s expensive, time consuming, and my kids are resistant. So I’m always trying to discover new ways to make healthy food “exciting”. This would be a good way to mix it up and save $$ when we have an overabundance of un-eaten fruits and veggies…. The first thing I would make would be dehydrated fruits & kale chips. 🙂

  308. Ronda

    October 14, 2014 at 10:51 am

    Hi Dani!!

I have been working hard on learning to make healthier eating decisions for my family. 2 of my children complain when their snack is fruit or a veggie. They all do love dehydrated fruit that is so expensive to buy at the store. I have wanted a dehydrator for several years and think it would be so AMAZING to finally have one. One of the first things I would dehydrate would be bananas & apricots…with cinnamon most likely. My family loves cinnamon.

Thanks for your great recipe alternatives that are healthy for my family!!

I have used a dehydrater to make shallot, jalapeño and wasabi “chips” for the finishing touches on some dishes. That being said I am excited to try the next level by making pomegranate jam crisps and chicharrones puffs with vegetables instead of pork/ salmon skin. Thanx!! Wish me luck, I need to win a dehydrater:)

I would love, love, love this dehydrator! I have an old dehydrator I use now, but it does not have any temperature controls. I just turn it on and let it go until my food is done. The heating element is on the bottom so I have to continually rotate the trays. This dehydrator would be a huge step up and I would probably use it more.
We would probably make apple chips from our apple harvest this fall.
Thank you for all your great recipes and tips!

I would love a dehydrator to have in the kitchen to make super yummy and healthy treats. I am on a health journey to clear my skin and raw food is amazing for this. I would make orange cranberry raw sprouted buckwheat granola, recipe from holistic habits!

I’ve seen Christy Jordan from Southern Plate freeze dry veggies, meat, even rice so I thought this would be great to have. I would love to try Tahini Coated Kale Chips because I didn’t have much luck in the oven with this one.

I am on a health journey to clear my skin, detox, and improve my energy levels and raw plant-based foods are sooo good for this purpose. I would love a dehydrator in my kitchen to make super yummy and healthy raw treats and the first thing I would make would be orange-cranberry raw sprouted buckwheat granola, recipe from Holistic Habits!

I would love to own a dehydrator because the two I had owned, the cheapest one you can buy, died because I over used them. I currently have to drive all the way to my mom’s house to use her Excalibur dehydrator, which is always full with her stuff. My first recipe I would make if I got a new dehydrator would be either some spicy kale chips or fruit roll-ups for my three kids who love them.

I have been on a quest to get my health back for almost 3 years and would absolutely be thrilled to own one of these dehydrators!!
I would love to try beef or chicken on this along with the kale chips recipe you shared! I have a garden and would be interested in trying to dehydrate some beets and zucchini, so many fun options:)
Thanks for sharing with all of us, I love trying out your recipes and look forward to them.

    Hey Dani,
If I had this wonderful food dehydrator I would make healthy snacks for my growing family. My first snack would be garlic kale chips and Parmesan zucchini chips. I have tried these recipes before in my oven and it was an epic fail. The taste was great, but it lacked that crunch that we all love with the store bought chips.

In my house jerky is a must, and we love making it at home. However, I have been wanting to try drying fruits for a long time, so my first recipe would be pineapple or apples. I have been putting off trying fruit because my current dehydrator only has the settings of on and off, and no instructions what so ever.

Hi Dani! I found you on YouTube one day and I gotta say- I am a huge fan! Me and my mom spend time together by watching a few of your videos each night on the YouTube app on her smart TV. Thank you for all of the education and information you put out there for us. You teach us how to make foods that I would never normally try because I have no idea how to cook or eat them! I would LOVE this dehydrator, I have wanted one for a while. I have been struggling to lose weight for quite some time, and I’m only 27- it shouldn’t be this hard! But I am trying to change my diet gradually to eat clean, whole and unprocessed foods. My Achilles heel is snacks- I love to snack. I think while I sit at my work computer all day, it helps me get through it. I would love to be able to make
Kale chips, dried apples, dried berries and dried veggies to snack on instead of chips or unhealthy items. I hope you select me as the winner! Thanks again for all you do- I only wish you lived in south Florida so you could be my nutritionist! If you ever decide to take on clients via skype please let me know!

Everything. Meat, veggies, fruit, everything in my fridge.. The list goes on! I want to make my own trail mix, salad items, and on the go snacks! Plus, oven baked/ broiled “chips” do not even come close to what they can be!
I’ve been making your recipes religiously for two and half years now and have improved my health, taste buds, and knowledge of what a cleaner lifestyle is. Thank you so much for starting your videos and making this website! You rock!

No doubt, my first recipe would be those Tahini Kale Chips! Since starting a healthier lifestyle, the one piece I wish I had to add to it is dehydrating! This would be perfect.

I am really curious about dehydrating. I have read some wonderful recipes out there, but having returned to university in my later years it means money is tight. <y first recipe would probably be classic fruit leathers,or perhaps to dry the herbs from my garden more efficiently.

I would really like to try that kale chip recipe. I made some in the oven the other day and loved them! Also, I would like to try dehydrating. I haven’t done much of it and it’s a great way to preserve the garden without canning. And my husband would love to do some jerky. It’s that time of the year, too. Maybe I should make him get his own dehydrator! =)

Hi Dani! I’ve been wanting a food dehydrator for quite a while but they are not cheap. The most important thing I would be making is almond flour. I always make almond milk and throw away the pulp because it doesn’t come out right in the oven. Thanks!!!!!!

    Ive never used one .

BUT Clean , healthy eating is important to me and my family . I have lupus and my son has CP, so we are very health conscious far as what we put in AND ON our bodies.

having healthy things readily available IS SOOO IMPORTANT

Being able to store and preserve more items for my family is an amazing way to save money… and actually be able to use the fruits and veggies you buy .. instead of having to throw them out if u cant use them in time

Id make pineapple chunks since my son loves chewing them . =)

I would really love this dehydrator because i am most interested in dehydrating fruits, veggies, and jerky. I’ve never used a machine, and my coworkers rave about them. I would love a good quality without spending an arm and a leg, since I am saving money or a house. I want a bigger kitchen to cook in. 🙂

    Hi Dani!
I would love a dehydrator so I don’t have to waste the surplus of vegetables I grow in the garden. Every year, I have too many courgettes, apples and tomatoes, and it is so sad to see them going bad.
My daughter is at college, and could use some extra vitamins that are easy to store! The first things I will dry are probably my fruits and vegetables from the previous harvest. I would also love to experiment with dehydrating yoghurt as it is a healthy snack for my kids!
    Thank you very much,
    Cecilia

I have been canning garden produce since the 1970’s. Never had considered ‘drying’ the produce. After exhausting my canning agenda, my pantry shelves are full. Now, I am thinking that ‘if’ husband and I had to make a quick evacuation to safer grounds having light weight dried foods are essential.
    Cheers,

I can already smell that beef jerky! Best quality meat. Not too salty. Not too sweet. This would help so much to increase my protein in ‘snack form’ , limit my fructose, increase veggies….all so key in keeping diabetes at bay! What a great addition to my kitchen that would be!

Having a one year old poses many challenges and one of the constant challenge is healthy food options. Having a dehydrator would make life a little less combative and a little more clean and delicious with my first recipes of dried apples, bananas, carrots and so much more! So long to containers of rotten fruit molding at the bottom of my diaper bag and HELLO to deliciousness!!
