Hey guys! This weeks question comes as a follow up to a video I posted a few weeks back, ‘Identifying The Difference Between Emotional And Physiological Hunger‘.
The question is brilliant (and loaded):
How do we know what we are truly hungry for when we feel hungry but are not physiologically hungry? In other words, I want to eat but my body does not need fuel, now what?
In this video I break down the three steps you need to take to identify emotional hunger and understand what it is you are truly craving when you feel hungry but are not physiologically hungry.
A big part of this work is learning to identify feelings, which can be tricky if you are out of practice, so if you scroll down below the video you will find two printable ‘Feelings Worksheets’ to help guide you through the process.
Please let me now if you have any thoughts or questions and enjoy the video!
Download Feelings Worksheet 1 and Feelings Worksheet 2.
Awesome information.
Now I feel hunger (your power of suggestion). I Ate about two hours ago when I got home from work.
Dani – great series on this topic, please keep it going! Your approach is clear & simple, and I’m sure a lot of us are finding useful, powerful information in just a few minutes.
Well explained! One thing I have done at different times is substitute drinking water. I read many years ago that sometimes when we think we are hungry, we are really thirsty. Plus many of us don’t get enough water. So, when I have that vague hunger Step 1 is to drink at least 8oz of plain water and wait at least half an hour.
This is SUCH good information. Hearing you say it makes it stick a lot better. I have done this exercise for myself more than once and as you say, it’s not always pretty what comes up. For me it wasn’t so much just identifying the feelings that “come up” but more specifically, what does it feel like at the instant I tell myself “no” to eating. It’s like someone or something is depriving me of pleasure and my little inner rebel ferociously fights back against it (them). I haven’t quite got my finger on it yet but it’s something akin to demanding my individuality or freedom from authority or “mother”. LOL! I’m 67 and my mother’s been dead for 10 years. The old stuff is still there anyway.
thanks, Dani! You are a darling.
Great insight! Just discovered your treasure trove of a website and am loving it all! Many thanks for sharing these awesome recipes and tips…am a new vegetarian and desperately trying clumsily to come up with fun foods to eat that will make me forget the totally unhealthy foods I have been addicted to all my life(potato chips, ice cream, cheese)to mention only a few!Just prepared your Raspberry & Banana ice cream…yummy!!!((one note…I didn’t find it too sweet, so I added 1 packet of Stevia and it made all the difference).Next week I want to try a mango ice cream with the same proportions…wish me luck!Thank you once again!
