Dani’s Kitchen Fave’s: Roasted Seaweed Snacks

Roasted Seaweed Snack

Roasted Seaweed Snack – Clean & Delicious®

Have you guys discovered these amazingly delicious, crispy, crunchy, salty, savory Seaweed “Chips” yet?
Now I can’t remember who initially introduced to me to this snack but whoever it was needs a big thank you because it was love at first taste.
All it is is sheets of roasted and salted seaweed in an easy to carry snack pack.  They are really crunchy and salty and have a real depth of flavor AND they really hit the spot when you are craving something in the “chip” department.

I have seen them at both Whole Foods (for .79c) and at Trader Joe’s (for .99c) but never at the regular grocery store yet.

The ingredients are pretty simple:
Seaweed
Canola oil
Sesame oil
Sea salt

This particular package is from TJ’s but the one at Whole Food’s looks very similar so you’ll be looking for the same sort of thing  no matter which store you at.  Here’s what you are looking for:

When you open the package you see rows of seaweed lined up:

Then you pull a piece out and you’ve got this thin, crispy, crunchy, salty, seaweed “chip”

Who would ever know that seaweed could taste so good??

Our “Circle of Moms” never leaves home without them because not only are they a perfect travel snack for Moms on the run but all the little ones love them too!

I just had to share my new found love for this snack!

Have you guys tried these yet?  Where do you buy them?  And of course… do you like them as much as I do??

OMG those are sooo yummy! I actually get them at the Korean Market and they are so tasty! They come in all flavors, my favorite being the ones in grapeseed oil, I think they are called Laver and they are about 10 calories for the whole pack. They’re messy to eat, but definitely worth it!

yes I LOVE these… I get mine from one of our asian grocers, so the label is written in Japanese – but they look the same!

I love seaweed in all forms, and I eat these like chips!

Yep! Love them! I don’t remember how old I was when I first had them….maybe 11 or 12, but I loved them from the first moment I tried them. This girl I was friends with growing up ate them but also used to roast them over the burner on the stove a little extra, LOL. I just eat them out of the package though. I get mine at the asian grocery store…..we have so many around here. :)

I will be looking out for these! I used to have something much the same when I was a little girl and we were in Japan years ago. Yum! And thank’s so much for the video on Kale Chips again, I made a huge bowl last night and my husband and I were in heaven. The kale chips taste so similar to an appetizer dish served in Chinese Restaurants over in England called “crispy seaweed”. I’ve missed that – it was normally serve shredded and fried, with powdered dried fish or dried shrimp sprinkled on top or dried ginger, but baking it has made it so much more healthy!!Yum yum yum! :)

Melissa – That is very sad! I can’t believe there in no TJ’s… What’s up with that?!?!?

Mallory – Good to know that they can be picked up at a Korean market for those who are not near a TJ’s or WF’s!

Kristina – I eat them like chips too!

Anne – I don;t have a pack in front of me but they are about 30 calories a pack w/ 2grams of fat depending on the brand of course.

Wani -Why haven’t you told me about them?!!? LOL

Brenda – You are very welcome:)

Well, I bought some seaweed snacks, brand name Annie Chun’s. I tasted a small piece and didn’t like it. All I could taste was the salt. Maybe I could hide it in scrambled eggs or cut up in a salad. It was $1.l9 for the 20 sheets.

Wonder if Trader Joe’s will taste the same???

Judy – I’ve never tried that brand but wonder if they taste very different. The TJ’s and WF’s versions are definitely salty (like a chip) but so flavorful! I think it’s worth trying to get your hands on some… and please let me know what you think!!

We Asians love it and have had it since we were babies, just like Katie. It’s on supermarket/convenient store shelf all over my country.

Just bought some today (Trader Joe’s brand), but they’re not crunchy at all! They’re sort of chewy and wierd…do you think I could pop them in the oven to re-crisp them?

Jade – So funny! Katie definitely LOVES them.

Karen – Hmmmm, not crunchy?! Perhaps they are stale! I think toasting them inthe oven is worth a shot. Would love to hear how it goes!

I, too, live in Florida. Keep emailing Trader Joes. We have been trying to get them to put one in Florida for years. My dad checked at Whole Foods. They know about them, but have not gotten them in yet. They are on the way! (This is the Whole Foods in Winter Park, near Orlando.)

I just tried those the other day for the first time, and I love them! I guess that shouldn’t surprise me too much, because as a child I use to eat strips of seaweed :p

I like these, but my son loves them! He takes them for snack at school all the time. I get them at Wegman’s in the Asian food section and have seen them at local health food stores as well.

    Hi Dani and others,

I discovered roasted seaweed and my affection for it two years ago when I first began working in Korea. It’s soo delicious. They’re very cheap here at around $4 for a pack of 16. I also love all kinds of seaweed soups and asian fruit and veggies. ^^ Thanks for sharing Dani! <3
