You’ll have to forgive me for being so M.I.A. in the KidBites department, but this should explain everything:
A baby in motion is rather time consuming! And Katie is most definitely on-the-go!
BUT in between all her exploring she has really been enjoying egg yolks. I’ve tried giving them to her scrambled, but she seems to prefer the yolk a little runny SO what I have been doing is cooking the egg yolk like I would an over medium egg. I simply pop it in the pan with a little olive oil and then once it begins to bubble a bit, I flip it over and let it go an extra ten or twenty seconds in the pan.
Apparently, egg whites are one of the top eight allergens for babies along with:
- Milk
- Peanuts
- Tree nuts
- Fish
- Shellfish
- Soy
- Wheat
Which is why we have been sticking to the yolks for now (which are super nutritious and packed with nutrients like Vitamins E, A, D, & K, calcium, folate, and B12).
She LOVES them. And as you can see in the picture, I do give the yolk a little sprinkle of salt! What can I say… babies like flavor too!!!
OH… I did I tell you guys that Katie now “smiles” for the camera! As a matter of fact, every time she sees the camera she “smiles”. It seems I can no longer take a picture of KAtie without her “smiling”.
Allow me to share with you Katie’s idea of a smile:
What can I say, when this kid does something, she does it 110%, even if it’s something as simple as a smile:).

The egg yolk looks so appetizing! Katie has the most gorgeous smile
If you don’t mind me asking, where did you find that adorable outfit with the face on the tush?
Cutie Patootey!! So happy you are taking those guidelines seriously. We learned that lesson the hard way when we gave my daughter a ‘taste’ of peanut butter at 13 months… scary day. She was too young to verbally express her allergic symptoms so valuable time was wasted before finally rushing to the hospital. She’s great now, and has learned to take all the proper precautions. I highly advocate listening to the appropriate ages on those foods!
my kids still love one of my childhood favorites: sunshine toast. put the yolk on the plate, with toast strips (5) radiating out from the “sun!”
nothing is more fun than food art! do it with fruit and veggies, anything. kids love it!
Katie, 110%? Like Mama me thinks.
You just singled out my favorite part of breakfast too!!! Hope that egg yolk is omega-3 enriched, I know you want a brain-i-ack daughter now don’t you? ha ha!
She is so adorable!
Dani, all kinds of interesting stuff re: kids in the allergy world. I am a fairly allergic person and we talked with my allergist a lot about our now 3yo and our 9mo twins. Let me know if you want me to forward any of the info to you that he has sent me. Interesting stuff.
OMG she is just the cutest thing ever!! I want to bite those cheeks
Please say hi to Beng for me
