Quick-No-Cook Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!“

How many times have we all heard this?

Maybe there’s something to it…

It’s actually been scientifically proven that starting the day with a nice, well-rounded, delicious breakfast not only provides us with more energy and clarity but also helps to reduce the overall amount of food we consume through out the day (which obviously helps us to maintain a healthy weight).

I’m a big believer in “different strokes for different folks”.

As far as I’m concerned, what’s good for the goose is not necessarily always good for the gander, BUT personally speaking I find that when I start my day off with a delicious breakfast (and NO donuts and croissants do not count!) I feel better and tend start my day off on the right foot.

Think about it, how many times have you skipped breakfast, maybe thinking you’re doing yourself a favor, only to be starving by lunch which results in you throwing down whatever you can get your hands on because… well, you’re hungry and after all you did skip breakfast so it’s really isn’t such a big deal to throw in the fries and a couple of cookies with lunch (please don’t tell me I’m the only one who has had this experience)??!!

Another interesting pattern that I notice with my clients is that often times people who feel that they are “not hungry” for breakfast are usually eating dinner really late OR having a few too many bed- time snacks.

So if you fall into the “I’m just not hungry for breakfast” category, this is something to think about.

Anyway, whether you already do or want to begin eating breakfast in the mornings, this is just a really quick and simple way to whip something together in the morning with out really having to do any cooking at all. It’s more of a breakfast idea than it is a recipe… but let me tell you guys, it’s yummy!

I like to mix half cottage cheese and half plain yogurt, but you certainly could just do one or the other… and of course, mix in whatever fruit and nuts you have on hand.

What do you guys have when you need a quick no-cook breakfast?? I’m always looking for some fresh ideas!!

Quick-No-Cook Breakfast

Ingredients

1/2 cup of low-fat cottage cheese*
1/2 cup of no-fat plain yogurt
1/2 a peach, chopped
1/2 a banana, chopped up
Big handful of blueberries
Tbsp. of walnuts
Dash of cinnamon
Serves 1.

Directions

Combine cottage cheese and yogurt with cinnamon.  Add fruit and nuts and enjoy!!

If you want to sweeten it up a bit, try a little honey or agave nectar.

*I know that organic products can get pretty pricey sometimes, and if you're like me you probably have to pick and choose which products you are gonna splurge for.  Dairy is one of the products I try to go organic with most of the time.

  1. I find that a breakfast of bacon and eggs can easily keep me going until lunch. Anything else and I am usually feeling like I need to eat something by mid-morning.

I do the same thing, pretty much! only thing is, i’m RAVENOUS in the morning, so I easily eat your recipe that you say serves 2. I usually do 3/4 yogurt and 1/4 cottage cheese and add a sprinkle of grapenuts and wheat germ. I find this combination addictive, actually.
and i usually go CRAZY with the cinnamon. Actually, I just bought this great pepper grinder with cinnamon and chocolate in it which is perfect for this.

  7. Dani says:

Lida – Yeah, looking back at this recipe, I think you’re right… this is a one serving deal.
Love the idea of cinnamon and chocolate in pepper grinder…brilliant! Thanks for sharing!

*almost* every morning, I’ll throw organic frozen berries, a scoop of whey protein powder, and some organic vanilla almond milk into the blender! (sometimes I use chocolate almond milk :) It will blend up kind of thick, so I’ll top with some organic granola and have a sort of cereal smoothie… really yummy and gives me tons of energy!
