Ch…Ch…Ch…Changin’!
Yup. That’s basically it in a nutshell. I am going to be making some changes to the site. Now, if you are a “not so interested in the details” sorta person, then know this;
1. You and I are very different.
2. You can stop reading right here because everything else that I am about to say is all going to boil down to the first three sentences of this post. Oh, and oh yeah…thanks for reading this far☺.
Now for the ”The more detail, the better” type of people (like myself), here is the long story. (Ay yah yah…where to begin?)
THE BACK STORY
A few years ago a friend forwarded me some info about a contest the Food Network was having, “Who Wants To Be The Next Food Network Star”. I’m sure by now most of you have heard of it and some of you may have seen it as well. Anyhow, for some unknown reason I actually found this intriguing enough to make the effort to submit a video. My husband and I pulled out our camera and had at it. We had so much fun making the video. It really got our “creative juices” flowin’.
I ended up being a semi-finalist in the 1st season, which was really exciting to me and my hubby and so being the brain couple that we were, my hubby and I thought, “Hey, why not make more of these videos and then we can do something with them ourselves?” What exactly? We had no idea…but that wasn’t going to stop us.
Fast-forward 1 year…my hubby and I buy a condo with an awesome kitchen and decide to take our brainchild idea and bring it to fruition. Now did we have any idea what we were going to do with the videos? No. We just figured we could post them somewhere. Where? We had no idea. We figured maybe we could create some type of website. Did we have any idea how to do that or what it took to do that? No. But did that stop us? No, again.
So off we went putting our time and effort into trying to figure out a format of how to create these videos, we even had a 3rd person doing the shooting and editing…we were pretty serious and very determined.
Oh and let me just be clear…yes, yes, yes I was hoping that in the midst of all of this, that on some long shot, I might somehow be discovered and offered my own TV show…I mean why not…seems all every network wants is a common cook…I’m a common cook AND I would do a much hotter photo shoot that either Rachael Ray or Giada pulled off;)…. just kidding (or am I)?! But in all seriousness, it was definitely a dream of mine.
Now as we began to figure out some of the technical stuff in video land, we still had very little idea of what exactly we were going to do with them other than the fact that we could post them on sites like YouTube and MySpace. It was around this time a friend of ours introduced us to the world of blogging. Now up until this point I had no idea what a blog was, I didn’t even know they existed and Lord knows I am not a computer savvy person.
Growing up my Mom used to always say to me…”Jeesh Dani, you’re like a bull in a china shop” and I must say she had a point…I tend to just charge into things without really thinking them through…and so yes, as it turns out, this blog is one of those things.
I didn’t know what the hell I was doing…the only thing I knew was how to make the videos…everything, and I mean everything else about this blog was set up for me by other people…all I do is come up with the recipes, shoot the videos, and post on Sunday.
But as I am beginning to wrap my mind around the blogging community I am realizing that I really like it and want to learn more about it…I’m even going to the Blogher Confrence this weekend (which I am really looking forward to).
In order for me to put my focus more on learning the ins and outs of blogging, I have to pull back on the video production.
PRESENT DAY
So here I am with this cool blog, but all I do is spend all of my time creating videos. So that has to change. I am going to shift towards more written posts. I am still going to do videos, but less often…probably 1-2 per month. And I am also going to change the focus ever so slightly; I just want to put a little more focus on healthy cooking. After all, it’s what I know best in the kitchen.
Now please understand, I’m trying to figure it out and I’ll be pretty messy for a while but I am determined to follow one bit of advice that was given to me my Nicole (a fellow blogger) from Pinch My Salt…she said, “Dani, remember…whatever you do with you’re blog, just have fun with it”! Duh…why didn’t I think of that…I love having fun!
So stay tuned, because your inside out, upside down, and backwards host is gonna be…ch, ch, ch, changin’!!
And that’s the long version.

sounds great, can’t wait to see what you come up with. blogging is (and should be) fun.
Hi Dani, I hope you’re having a great time at the conference. to be honest, I didn’t even really think of this site as a blog. I came to know of this site via YouTube and I just figured this was a website where you posted your video’s and that was the main focus -not any written content. Perhaps I was wrong? I just read something you said about something being “a flop”? Not a single comment? I feel guilty about this! I think your site is great! I may not have visited recently as I haven’t been well… but today for example, after buying ground turkey (finally) I made the mini-meat loaves! I baked some sweet potatoes (with low-fat Weight Watchers sour cream dolloped on top) and I made a spinach and arugula salad with them too. I took some quick photo’s to show you but have to figure out how to send them to you.
Loved the outtake video by the way!
Elsie – Hi!! Happy to hear you still stop by…I’m just as interested as you as to what I’ll be “coming up with”!
Maria – I know what you mean…this isn’t really a “convential blog”. As for your meal it sounds terrific…I hope you enjoyed it!
I love your stuff! Keep it coming… delicious, healthy… tips and stories… whatever comes along. I’d love to keep up with you on your next adventure. You have a magic touch.
Mary – Thank you! Thank you! I’m going to!!
hi dani! i found you on youtube while i was trying to figure out what to do with some leftover chicken. your vid. popped up, im so glad i clicked it coz your recipes are brilliant!
why aren’t you on food network yet?
hey! how are you? just so you know I love love love your videos.
Sheila – Hi…I’m so happy that you enjoy the videos…thanks for stopping by!!
Steamy Kitchen – Thanks…you’re the best!!
I have been viewing and looking forward to your vids from the start & I absolutely love them. Your easy relaxed approach to food has taught me to be a lot more confident in my own kitchen. I like the way you gently draw your viewers into the process to show that cooking need not be a chore, but can be at once a pleasure and an adventure. I thank you for that, really!
With all due respect to the big TV Foodies none of them has ever shown that ability as well as you do, it always seems to be more about the ‘personality’ than the plate, at least that’s how it appears to me.
I totally agree with Shiela ‘why aren’t you on the food net?’
I wish you much luck with your new Blog and I’ll look forward to reading you and of course catching your vids.
Connie – Thanks so much!! I appreciate all of the support…maybe one day you guys will be watching me on the food net…after all, they need a gal like me to show others that a simple, healthy kitchen is easy, fun and d’lishes:)!!
